Is Matcha Green Tea Superfood Or Just A Trend?

Matcha Green Tea has risen in popularity lately thanks to the internet and social media, It is now described as the new start and it has been praised for its numerous health benefits.

The main difference between Matcha green tea and regular green tea is it’s the way it’s grown and its extraction method.

Green tea is originally from China, but it was introduced to Japan in the Middle Age. The Japanese embraced the tea and used it in their tea ceremony, which they still do until these days.

This green tea is grown under bamboo forcing it to struggle to get sunlight in that way producing more chlorophyll. The leaves are then harvested, steamed, and stone-ground to make a fine powder, unlike green tea, where the leaves are boiled and thrown out. Matcha green tea has more beneficial properties since we consume the whole leaf.

Is Matcha Green Tea Really Healthy?

When compared to other teas, Matcha green tea has a lower caffeine level but a higher one than green tea. 

There proven benefits of this tea include:

  • Lowers blood pressure and reduces the risk of developing coronary heart disease. 
  • one cup of green tea a day is associated with a 10% lower risk of coronary disease. 
  • Maintains vascular tone
  • Improves ventricular function, increases nitric oxide production, and decreases oxidative stress—lowering blood pressure.
  • Has anti-inflammatory properties. 
  • High antioxidant properties are in Matcha tea infusions.
  • Contains Epigallocatechin Gallate antioxidants that fight cancer. 

Matcha tea provides a burst of energy. If you’re someone who needs caffeine in the morning, it boosts your energy without inducing too much caffeine while giving an array of benefits.

Matcha helps in weight loss. Contains polyphenol Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) which increases metabolism rates.

Green tea reduces cholesterol levels. It reduces stress and anxiety levels. EGCG in Matcha tea helps in lowering stress levels in humans.

Is Matcha Green Tea A Superfood?

Yes, it is. Matcha is a superfood. All its potential benefits are too many not to consider it as a superfood. Beverages are a daily consumption, and you can Matcha tea as a preference as it is extremely beneficial for your health.

Though most of the research about Matcha green tea is still underway we can’t ignore that people consuming the tea regularly become healthier. So if you are not on the consuming end, you probably should give it a try.
